Jean Carzou, pseudonym of Karnik Zouloumian, born in Aleppo (Syria) within an Armenian family on January 1, 1907, and died in Marsac-sur-l'Isle (Dordogne) on August 12, 2000.
He rests in the Montparnasse cemetery in Paris where his burial slab is adorned with his signature. Painter, lithographer, engraver (etching, drypoint) French Theater decorator of Armenian origin. Graduated in 1928 in Paris from the Special School of Architecture.
He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and at the Salon d'Automne, etc. He received the prestigious Hallmark prize three times (in 1949, 1952 and 1955), as well as the public prize for painters witnesses of their time in 1953. He was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts in 1977.
