Guy Buffet was born in Paris in 1943. His father took young Guy for walks in Montparnasse to show him famous landmarks like "La Coupole" where famous artists like Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, George Braque, and Tsuguhara Foujita would spend their days and evenings. These artists became heroes and role models for Guy Buffet's future life. One summer, he spent time in the country with a family friend who was an artist, and he fell in love with the smells and feelings of an artist's studio.
By the end of the visit, he had completed a large 2' x 3' painting that surprised everyone with its composition, colors, and brush strokes. The artist friend was so impressed that he never let Guy Buffet use his studio again! Guy decided at that moment to become an artist.
At 14, he moved to the south of France with his mother and enrolled in the Beaux Arts School of Toulon to study art full time. His teachers were professional artists from the School of Provence, with palettes of bright colors and canvases that exuded joy and love of life, or as the French say, "joie de vivre"!
This influence is still evident in Guy's work today. Buffet's whimsical and fine artwork has been admired and collected worldwide for many decades. Despite being humorous at times, Guy Buffet's depictions are always sincere and tender. After 50 years of painting and traveling the world, he is often recognized, especially in restaurants. Once the staff realizes he is there, many offer to pose for him on the spot! Those who know Guy Buffet well have dubbed him "The Wandering Artist", a title that suits him perfectly! I have been fortunate to travel the world and have many interests. I constantly read and research to learn and stay fresh with ideas. The Italian countryside, Amsterdam, China, Tahiti, India, and other exotic locations have inspired my canvases, and I have a deep love for dogs, so you will see many of them in my work.Over the years, I have been commissioned by various corporations, including Aloha Airlines, Grand Marnier, Absolut Vodka, Inter-Continental Beachcomber-Tahiti, Westin and Ritz-Carlton Hotels, Champagne Perrier-Jouet, and Williams-Sonoma. What a wonderful life it is! I have met many wonderful people along the way, and I hope to make your acquaintance and welcome you into my world! Guy Buffet's whimsical depictions of sommeliers, chefs, waiters, and other images adorn everyday items like dinner plates, napkins, tablecloths, men's dress shirts, ties, and women's fashion.
