Born in 1940, he was the son of the philippe painter drowning. He began a career in business but decided at the age of 23 to interrupt his debut in a genève bank to return to France to develop his artistic talents. He studied with his father and became a breillaud.

His unique illustrative style earned him a quick success, especially celebrated in Anglo-Saxon countries. A wide variety of subjects characterize his work, from Mediterranean and Tuscan landscapes to urban scenes, not to mention his filiform and elegant characters. He is known for his ability to capture the almost surreal grace of the art deco period. His works have a dreamlike character, referring to comics and remain at the same time deeply rooted in reality. His approach is both realistic and naive, his characters seem to awaken to life thanks to his expert use of colours.
