Gaspar Camps was born in Igualada (Spain) on December 29, 1874 and died in Barcelona on April 11, 1942. A Spanish painter, illustrator, and poster artist, he is associated with Art Nouveau and Catalan modernism.

He spent most of his career in France. He studied at the school of fine arts in Igualada and Barcelona. From 1894 to 1897 to refine his knowledge he stayed in Paris. He became a student of Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant, William Bouguereau, and Jean-Paul Laurens.

He took over from Alphonse Mucha in 1905 after the latter's departure to the United States, as an advertising illustrator and was nicknamed the "Catalan Mucha". In 1905, he decided to settle in France, first in Paris and in 1920 in Toulouse. His preferred subject was the Spanish woman, dancer from different provinces in traditional costume or emancipated woman smoking a cigarette (JOB) or drinking a glass of champagne.

His model was often his own wife, Cristina Dotti. In 1920 he returned to Barcelona and continued his career mainly in Catalonia, but he considered France as his second homeland.
