Alvar Sunol Munoz-Ramos, also known as Alvar, was born in Montgat, Spain, on January 29, 1935. He is a painter, sculptor, and lithographer. In 1957, he held his first solo exhibition at the Layetana Gallery in Barcelona. In the 1960s, he exhibited with other prestigious Spanish artists including Miro, Dali, and Picasso. In 1962, the Monede Gallery in New York presented Alvar's work in his first exhibition in the United States.

In 1963, Alvar created his first original lithographs for a solo exhibition at the Drouant Gallery. He gained recognition from art collectors for his original lithographs and regularly exhibits throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and Japan. After ten years in Paris, he returned to Spain where he currently lives and works.

Alvar works with watercolor, oil, ceramics, engravings, sculpture, lithography, graphite drawings, murals, and monuments. His works are exhibited in over 40 museums (exhibitions and permanent collections) and over 95 galleries and museums throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.
