Notre Dame De Paris (1899), Original Lithography By Paul Berthon (1872-1934)

Son of a primary school inspector, he began studying painting in his hometown of Villefranche. From 1893 he moved to Paris, where he attended the normal school of drawing teaching. There are as teachers luc-olive-merson and chevann bed.

Among the courses taken at the time, those of the professor of decorative art eugene greasy. He's made a bigger impact.

Like the latter, he moved in the second half of the 1890s. Towards an art nouveau style. Like marrice billiard verneuil, the first works of paul berthon (circa 1896) show a style similar to that of greasy. By freeing himself from the style of his master, his own style develops on the basis of a palette of autumnal pastels, with clear lines and contours.

Due to his premature disappearance, the catalogue of his works is not immense, about a hundred lithographs (printed in particular by burgundy and cie), chromolithographies (at chaix & cie) and engravings on wood, two thirds of which qualify as "decorative panels". Note also the famous cover of July 1897 of the magazine the image (wood engraving); that same year, a poster for the railway company of the West ("normandie-bretagne", a copy in the collections of the Breton museum of quimper) and two other posters, the hermitage and violin lessons (1898) reproduced in the magazine the masters of the poster.
